Some tips about scripting for Second Life

Modified: 21/02/2008 14:51 by sparti.
I have a few tips, which I will make more detailed, or you can.

Please do add anything appropriate here, so tools, programming in general etc.

TOP TIPS

This has a MS Visual Studio-like approach to layout and control of solutions/projects/resources

MY PREVIOUS FAVOURITE EDITOR

  • Use the Scite-EZ editor, http://sdfjkl.org/secondlife/scite/
  • combine this with lslint, http://w-hat.com/lslint/, to get syntax checking as you edit
  • When a version of your project works SAVE IT NOW to a new directory and then carry on working. That way you overwrite something good with something broken.

  • Use a clear coding style with plenty of whitespace. I know some people hate whitespace, but it's the style on this wiki. It helps keep things readable. Compact dense unreadable code which saves 40 characters is NOT efficient. You spend ages trying to read it and longer struggling to understand it.

QUESTIONS: Has anyone tried out the TextMate software on the Mac ?

Look at Adam Marker's page, http://adammarker.org/shill/, have you used one of these tools ? can you recommend one or write a short piece about one ?
